Help us give our cat Callie a nice end-of-life
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
Our names are Liz and Hex. We adopted our cat Callie from the shelter in Montréal when she was 15 years old - or rather we “foster failed” after fostering her for 6 months and no one wanting to adopt her. We knew Callie had a lot of health issues when we made the commitment, and that it would be a financial strain, but we really wanted to try and give her as nice an end-of-life possible, because she is so loving, and she’s our little ray of sunshine and she deserves it.
However, her health has declined rapidly, and she now has extra needs to keep her comfortable, and we’re reaching out to see if the community out there could support us. Her kidney disease has progressed, so we are giving her painkillers and anti-nausea medicine every day, along with sub-Q fluids to hydrate her and help the kidneys function.
Also, her arthritis is causing a lot of pain, so we’ve started giving her monthly injections of Solensia, an arthritis-specific painkiller. She likely has bad arthritis because someone previously declawed her. The Solensia seems to be making a difference though, because she’s climbing onto the couch and bed again for the first time in awhile.
The big expense we are anticipating is euthanasia. Callie has terrible vet anxiety - it was so intense, they had to have an animal behaviourist handle her at the animal shelter and she apparently screamed constantly. So we want to give her home euthanasia so she can go on her way in the peaceful way she deserves.
All of this combined, paired with the fact we’ve nearly emptied our pet savings account - and generally, finances are strained for us right now - means we would really appreciate any support.
Here is the breakdown of how we’re planning on using the money:
Home euthanasia (includes procedure and cremation): $1,144 CAD
Solensia (for arthritis pain, 3 months): $642 CAD
Cerenia (anti-nausea medication, 3 months): $414 CAD
Blood and urinalysis test on Oct. 8 to check her kidney function: $300 CAD
Should she pass away earlier, we will donate the remaining money to The Animal Rescue Network in Montréal, a no-kill shelter dedicated to providing a second chance for abandoned and/or abused cats.
We are setting the deadline for Oct. 8, in hopes of having what she needs by the time of her blood/urine test.
Thank you so much and any and all support,
- Liz and Hex
