If you’re reading this message and you’ve met Ben Finlan, you’re one of the lucky ones. Ben is a bright light who showers everyone around him with love, affection, and kindness. If you know him, your life has no doubt been enriched by having Ben in it. If you’re receiving this and you haven’t met him in person, this message won’t begin to do him justice. Ben was raised in London, Ontario and most recently has been thriving in Toronto. He’s kind, athletic, engaging, and warm hearted. He also needs your help right now.
Ben recently spent a weekend with some of his best friends in London England. The trip was supposed to be a short reunion and was to last from November 29th to December 4th. On Monday December 3rd at 3:11am, after a night of fun-loving comradery, Ben was assaulted and for lack of a better term “mugged” while waiting for his friends to link back up with him just outside of a bar in central London.
Ben sustained multiple skull fractures which has led to a severe hematoma on the left side of his brain. Pedestrians found him at 3:26am bleeding from his head on a sidewalk. He was rushed to the Royal London Hospital. After an unsuccessful search for Ben, his friends Andrew, Corey and Robb were notified later that day by London Police that Ben was in critical condition. They arrived at the hospital on time to see Ben taken in for emergency brain decompression surgery. He was treated by some of the most skilled brain surgeons and medical staff in the world.
The assault, which transpired in seconds, destroyed hearts and altered lives. Ben’s girlfriend Kath was 48 hours away from a loving reunion with her boyfriend. The two were set to move into a new condo and to continue their lives together. Ben had started a new job that he was excited about. He was to return to Ontario where he could reunite with his loving friends, his mother Cindy, brother Pat, sister Claire, father Ed and spend Christmas with his girlfriend Katherine and her family in Victoria, BC. Sadly, his future has been put on another path. Ben is conscious, in a stable condition and every day the doctors are seeing small improvements, which is very encouraging. If all goes well, the earliest he might return to Canada is sometime in January. There are still countless uncertainties. The prognosis is “guarded”, and it could be several months before we are blessed with the return of the Ben we know and love.
Kath and Ben’s mom have committed to living in London until this day arrives. With that comes unforeseen and incredible expenses. What was to be a down payment for a condo for Ben and Kath has now been re-allocated to immediate necessities. We need your help.
By contributing to this cause, you are helping a truly amazing human get back on his feet. More directly, you are helping his loved ones stay by his side and you will help lay a new foundation upon which we hope Ben will ascend back to the successful life he once enjoyed. Your love, prayers, and financial support will be put to immediate use. Life is precious. Please help us bring back Benny!
