Debbie Fuentes Memorial Fund
Donation protected
I am profoundly saddened to share that Debbie Fuentes passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024. Debbie touched the hearts of many in her local community and within the Arabian horse community. She will be greatly missed.
During the summer of 2023 Debbie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia called Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Doctors assume it was likely treatment related-MDS, caused by previous breast cancer treatments she received back in 2016.
In February of this year, Debbie underwent a stem cell transplant. During the transplant process Debbie was hospitalized for over a month to re-grow her blood cells and re-gain her strength. She continued to require 24/7 home care for months after returning home. Debbie was so appreciative of everyone’s generosity, cards, kind words, and prayers during this time. Unfortunately, Debbie’s blood counts never fully returned to normal and by July she had relapsed with a more aggressive acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The disease continued to progress and by late-October Debbie was hospitalized where she spent the last several weeks of her life. Debbie battled hard - all the way to the end and never wanted to give up.
Facing the diagnosis was an overwhelming experience, both emotionally and financially for Debbie and her family. Debbie was somewhat private about her battle and the associated hardships. However, large insurance deductibles combined with co-pays, home care, and general life expenses had been difficult for her to manage. While Debbie was blessed to receive disability benefits during her leave from work, the pay was only a fraction of her regular salary. Jorge had taken time off work to care for Debbie and subsequently lost his job. Their personal savings were depleted, and the bills were mounting. Debbie was more than a little resistant to ask for help but was deeply grateful for the love and support she received. Many thanks to those who supported the family with donations for household expenses these last few months.
This memorial fund is for the continued support of Debbie’s family as they mourn this tremendous loss. Donations will go toward funds to assist Jorge and the family with ongoing household expenses (e.g. food, gas, mortgage, utilities) and towards a memorial to honor Debbie's life. May God bless the family as they transition into a life without Debbie. Your generosity, no matter the size, will be deeply appreciated and provide vital help during this challenging time.
Debbie’s service arrangements are pending but as soon as details are finalized, I will share them on this page. Thank you all for your support.
And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make
