Mark's Heart

Last month Mark was admitted to the hospital for an inability to breathe and chest pain. After much testing and ten days of intensive hospital care, he has received the very challenging diagnosis of congestive heart failure with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Additionally, he has a blood clot in his left ventricle.

Mark’s health stabilized enough to leave the hospital. After a week of in-home care by his dear friend Denise Roche, he is cautiously returning back to work at his studio.

As a business owner and artist, Mark is totally self-employed without any additional assistance. If he is not working, there is no income. He devoutly makes the trek to his studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn daily, as he has for numerous years, but his energy and strength is incredibly low right now. The commute alone is exhausting. He is unable to meet the demands of work without the sacrifice of his health.

He will never be cured. These are lifelong chronic conditions, an indefinite new reality. Under the close care of a team of specialists at Mount Siani, the hope for Mark is to regain a level of strength and stability to return to his livelihood both personally and professionally.

We hope with your help, and the extended art community, Mark’s energy can be focused on regaining health without the added stress and distraction of the financial burden.

Our goal is $30,000 to cover Mark’s expenses, compensate for lost work, additional medical costs and to create a humble safety net for adjustments in Mark’s future work capacity.
