Project ROY - Revive Our Youth
Donation protected
We are medical students who founded SAM (Seniors Advocacy Movement), a senior's advocacy group. We started this initiative at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown to give the elderly a voice as they have suffered so much – physically and mentally – during this past year. The pandemic has been tough for the elderly in our community. They haven't been able to spend time with their families like they were used to and not being able to spend time with their loved ones over Christmas further exacerbates the feeling of loneliness.
As we are headed into the holiday season, we want to continue bringing seniors joy. Christmas is one of the holidays that these seniors look forward to every year and we want them to experience the holiday joy. We have started Project ROY (Revive Our Youth), in honor of Roy Strembiski who currently resides at Citadel Care Centre, a longterm care (LTC) centre in St. Albert, AB. Mr. Strembiski is the father of one of our mentors and one of our strongest supporters of SAM.
To help fundraise funds to buy gifts for seniors living at the Citadel LTC, we have partnered up with SPIDER MABLE!! Santa Clause has challenged her with a mission this this Christmas. She is helping us bring joy to seniors this holiday season and help Santa deliver gifts to residents of Citadel LTC. We are asking the Edmonton community to help Spider Mable spread joy amongst the seniors.
100% of the funds raised for this project will be used for SAM related projects, like buying holiday gifts for the elderly living in Citadel Care Centre to remind the seniors of their youth. Several months ago, we donated items to residents at Good Samaritan Society Zetter Care Centre. Currently, we are leading an art therapy project with residents of several LTC centres including Devonshire, Hardisty, and Benevolence care centres in Edmonton! These paintings are posted at Southgate Mall.
This Christmas, we want to show the seniors in LTC that we are thinking about them and that we value them. We are asking the Edmonton community to donate funds to help buy gifts for these seniors, and remind them of their youthful times. We will deliver these gifts to the Citadel Care Centre mid-December. The year 2020 has been difficult for many of us, but we hope that a Christmas gift from the Edmonton community will bring a smile to a senior's face. Thank you for your help in making this project a success!
