Assistance for Licensed Therapist Preparation

Greetings!

We are all placed on earth with a purpose to fulfill. For some, there can be an early indication in childhood, which could show up in their adolescent years, and for others, the meaning of life is shown to them in adulthood. We all have a purpose on earth; sometimes we find it through joyful moments, sad times, or healing from traumatic experiences. Regardless of how it transpires, we have a life filled with experiences that are meaningful for our development which can bring us closer to our reason for living.

Understanding my purpose started as a young child and bloomed as an adult. I am Jaala Davis and on May 6, 2023, I received my graduate degree in counseling from St. Edward’s University. My letter of appeal is centered around my continued professional growth and development. Furthering my career as a counselor requires that I prepare myself to take a rigorous examination to become a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), as well as ongoing certification and continuing education.

Briefly, I will share how and why I became committed to serving others. Being involved in the community and collaborating with people from my neighborhood is something that was instilled in me at an early age. My grandmother participated in Welfare Reform during the ’60s and ’70s, my mother is a retired community activist and administrator worked in community-based NGOs for over 30 years, and my father is a retired Firefighter and Inspector. They all taught me the importance of community, being a kindhearted individual and helping those in need.

As a young girl, I have always been known to connect with people. It did not matter their age, race, gender or sexual orientation; I always bonded with them. Joy is what I feel when I interact with someone for the first time. I remember at the age of seven, I joined my mother as a volunteer at an assisted living facility. I recall being overly excited to be able to show my reading skills to someone new. On this one particular Saturday afternoon, there was an older gentleman whom I connected with instantly. He stood out because he was kind, genuine, and warm. Our relationship started off with reading stories to each other and then developed into him sharing his stories about his family, and life. Even at that early age, I was intrigued to hear about his life story. Although it was for a short amount of time it was a valuable moment that ignited my soul and my enthusiasm for community service.

I share this story with you all because this was my beginning...my admiration and respect for humanity and our physical and mental well-being. Therefore, in 2019, I enrolled in my graduate program and successfully completed my master’s in counseling. What an amazing experience; from my coursework to my internship, it all challenged me, and with no hesitation, I know I am right where I am supposed to be. I am fulfilling my purpose.

Please consider a financial blessing in any amount. Every contribution will go towards the purchase of the required National Counselor Examination materials and exam fees, so I can begin to practice, and ongoing continuing education and certification. If you cannot contribute financially, please share my GoFundMe link.

From my heart, I thank you for considering my request. I genuinely appreciate your time, love, effort, and willingness to support me on my career journey.

Your support means a lot to me, and I am grateful for your generosity.
