Taylors funeral and medical bills.

Hi my name is Andrea Poirier, I am Taylor Poirier’s sister. On June 26th around 1pm our family got the worst news ever. Taylor and his two kids got into a very serious car accident on 76th and florist in Milwaukee, WI. All three were rushed to the hospital. The kids sustained serious injuries and my brother had life threatening injuries.

His 6yr old son Brody had a bunch of lacerations and needed stitches. His leg was stuck in the car and needed to be cut from the vehicle however that leg was ok. Thankfully he was able to be discharged the same day. His 3yr old daughter Penelope had a big laceration by her eye with nerve damage that required emergency surgery that night and they were able to repair three of the four nerves giving her 90% chance to regain full function of her eyebrows. She also had a ton of lacerations everywhere that required a few stitches. She was discharged the next day on the 27th. The kids are doing so well now. They are with our family and having so much fun.

Taylor was 32yrs old, and sustained a traumatic brain injury from the crash. He also needed to be cut from the vehicle. He was experiencing high pressure and bleeding in his brain. The doctors at Froedtert Hospital immediately performed emergency surgery removing part of his skull for the pressure and placing a shunt in his brain for the bleeding. He was put in a medically induced coma and they used a cooling machine to cool his body to help with the pressure in his brain. He was on a lot medication and because of this he developed high blood sugars in the 400s when normal levels should be around 120. He also needed an insulin drip to help keep those stable.

By Tuesday the 27th he was not showing any signs of improvement and they took him out of the coma and medically paralyzed him. The doctors were hoping by doing this his body would get the chance to completely relax and really wanted this to help with the high pressure in his brain. His inter-cranial pressure (ICP) was around 30 and that number needed to be below 20.

Then on Wednesday the 28th he had a ct scan of his brain that showed significant brain loss on both sides. His ICP was still in the low 30s. He started having some heart problems and we were told he was going into multi organ failure from the cooling the drs were using for the pressure so they unfortunately needed to turn that off. He needed the cooling for the pressure in his brain and without it we were told the pressure would become so much that blood would stop flowing to his brain.

Thursday the 29th our family was sadly told Taylor was brain dead. We moved him to comfort care and had to make the worst decision of our lives to end life support. Taylor passed away at 545pm surrounded by his family and loved ones. We all hugged him, held him and his hands for hours crying, telling him we loved him and how sorry we were for this happening. Taylor absolutely did not deserve this.

The driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene. He is facing three charges from the accident. We will update what those are when we hear more about that in the coming days.

We are fundraising for his funeral and burial cost. We want to have a nice memorial and have a place his kids and his loved ones can always visit him. We are also fundraising for the medical bills while he was in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Froedtert. Taylor did not have insurance and being his immediate family we can’t imagine how high those bills will be. Our family would greatly appreciate all your love, support and prayers as we just lost our mother a couple months ago and now him. Taylor will be missed so much. Him and our other brother Scott were best friends. They were together everyday. Taylor was an awesome dad, the best brother, the funniest uncle and the sweetest son. He was too young to die and we are just so devastated. He was just the greatest of all time and his presence will be missed tremendously. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please donate if you’re able to help. Also, most importantly, if you’re able to share our story that would help more than you could imagine. Thank you again. The Poirier Family.
