Outdoor Classroom

Amos Hiatt Middle School is a Des Moines Public School that works with a very diverse population of students who predominately come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds. We are asking for help creating an outdoor classroom and lunch area in a beautiful courtyard area on campus.

We will use the outdoor area to create a beautiful area with landscaping, flowers, paver stone patio, a safety fencing and entrance gate.  Students will be able to utilize the area as an outdoor classroom as well as an area for picnic style lunches.

We would like to have the necessary funding raised by the end of June so we can create the area in July & August. The goal is to have it ready when our students return to school next fall.

This area would mean so much to our students and teachers. Our school works with students who are often times going through tremendous hardships in their lives. An outdoor area would give our teachers another tool to help ease some of the stress these students experience and give them an opportunity feel safe in a beautiful area.
