Army Spec. David Emanuel Hickman was a leader on the football field at Northeast Guilford High School and a hero for the United States Army.
David was killed in Baghdad by a roadside bomb that ripped through his armored truck November 14, 2011. He was on a police-type patrol. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. David was the last US service member to die in the Iraq War.
The Northeast Guilford High School class of 2006 created this scholarship in his honor to give another strong student athlete who exhibits similar brave and honest leadership qualities and traits even more opportunities as they venture to college. David was a Northeast football captain and led the team to various victories but as a soldier, he was also victorious and won several awards including The National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantry Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. His awards to come are the Combat Infantry Badge, The Good Conduct Medal, The Bronze Star, and The Purple Heart.
We aim to present the David Hickman Scholarship award during the NEHS 2016 Homecoming game to a deserving student during halftime.
Please share your support and help us reach our goal to continue David Hickman's legacy and stay tuned for further details on how to apply.
