HIDDEN VIOLETS FILM - A queer love story

Donation protected

Our short film focuses on the lives of Bronwyn and Jade, two college students, while they wrestle with navigating their casual relationship as it threatens to become something more serious.
-
We’re a group of young, queer and/or women filmmakers based mainly in Seattle, WA. Most of us have met through the University of Washington’s film production club LUX, where we made films together under the guidance of other students and Seattle professionals. Now, we’ve branched out on our own to create a queer short film under our complete creative and financial control.
-
All donors with a contribution above $20 receive a special thanks in the credits.

For too long the stories featuring queer folk, especially young women, have been tragic affairs; rife with misfortune, forced straight relationships, and death. We mean to change that.

Our film is working to elevate queer voices and storytelling by showing a positive representation of WLW relationships and friendships. As young filmmakers, we see ourselves as a part of the future re-emerging Seattle film scene and are working to establish ourselves as contenders.

  • Support within queer communities
  • Self-love
  • Self-acceptance
  • Vulnerability in relationships
  • Queer joy

We’ve stretched the most we can get for free already. As a group of college students, our savings are typically focused elsewhere; but thousands of dollars of personal finances have already been spent early in pre-production in the effort to get this project off of the ground. To bring this story to light, we need YOUR help. We aren’t paying crew or cast. This is a project of passion, and every dollar we get will go to improving the quality of this film. Come this winter, we hope to start sending the project to film festivals, focusing on PNW and queer film festivals. But we can’t do this alone!

Every donation we get will go into the film. Specifically, this means a larger budget for the art department (set dressing, props, makeup, costume, etc.) and the post-production crew (physical hardware, editing support, coloring, sound design, etc.). More money grants us the ability to dive deeper into the vision of the Hidden Violets world, which will have a noticeable impact on the viewing experience.

  • Our set will still be practicing various precautions for COVID-19, including sanitizing stations for equipment and on-set persons, as well as enforced masking for folks who are not in front of the camera.
  • We are an independent production, so we do not have the support of studios or major sponsors. We are reliant on ourselves, and the support folks like yourself provide.
  • We need money to create the visual appeal best suited for festivals! The art and design department is the largest component of our budget, and we need to provide them with the funds to do their job well.
  • We’d like to provide a safe and positive experience for the cast and crew!

We’re active on Instagram (@hiddenvioletsfilm) and our website (hiddenvioletsfilm.com), and once production starts we’ll release BTS videos on TikTok (@hiddenvioletsfilm).

This fundraiser closes on Thursday, October 20th.
