High Schoolers Against Lung Cancer
Tax deductible
High Schoolers Against Lung Cancer is an initiative run by high school students looking to raise money for lung cancer research. We aim to show that anyone at any age can help in the fight against lung cancer, no matter what your position in life is. Many people will face life-changing issues in their life, but currently, we are fortunate enough not to hear the news of how many weeks we have left to live, or how rare this form of lung cancer is. We want to help prevent people from ever needing to hear that life-changing diagnosis, and if they do, we want to help with a cure.
This initiative is close to us as a community as we see a rapid growth in the usage of vapes in schools. In 2023, 10% of all highschoolers reported vaping, whilst 4.6% of middle schoolers reported using a vape. This tied in with smoking is an issue that needs to be addressed but also needs a solution.
The initiative is headed by Norman Decelles, a student at Mount Saint Charles Academy and an Eagle Scout. “This program is near and dear to my heart. I have personally seen the impact lung cancer has on the lives of those directly and indirectly affected. Lung Cancer can affect anyone at any time. Each year, around 209,000 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer, 132,000 will die from this. This is a rapidly growing problem facing us, and we need to take an initiative to stop it.”
100% of all donations will be donated to the American Cancer Society, whose mission is “to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.”
