About the Film

High Stakes follows the story of a vampire (Citlali) and a vampire hunter (Marisol) who accidentally flirt with each other, completely unaware of their true identities. Their mutual attraction grows, but when they finally realize they are natural enemies, they find themselves in a series of increasingly dangerous and hilarious encounters. Their journey is a mix of dark humor, action, and romance, as they navigate their conflicted feelings and the absurdity of their situation. At its core, it's about characters and their journeys, exploring themes of identity and perception, and making viewers rethink good and evil.

Director's Vision

Hi everyone I am Yolotzin Martinez a proud Latina and first-generation college graduate from Cal State Long Beach, I'm excited to bring a fresh spin to the vampire genre with "High Stakes." This film mixes the gothic charm of vampire lore with the gritty reality of a vampire hunter's life, adding dark comedy and romance to keep things fun and unexpected. I'm passionate about uplifting women of color and gender minorities, showcasing them as complex and powerful individuals. I'm thrilled to bring this project to life with a talented team, all working together to make "High Stakes" a standout film.

Why is this story important?

Because it challenges the stereotypes imposed on Latino characters in media, breaking away from the tired narratives. Instead, we showcase complex characters who defy expectations and resonate with authenticity.

Moreover, 'High Stakes' is a testament to the power of female and Gender minorities leadership. Not only do we have a diverse cast of women of color in front of the camera, but our entire production is spearheaded by talented women and non-binary people behind the scenes. Representation matters, both on-screen and off-screen.
