Help Hollyvilla Community Garden Grow
Donation protected
We want to help a lot of people get fresh food for years to come! Help us build and expand our community garden in the Fairdale, KY food desert.
Your donation to Hollyvilla Garden will go towards:
- Planting and caring for fruit trees, nut trees, and berry brambles that improve the urban environment and provide a sustainable source of free, organically-grown food for neighbors facing high rates of food insecurity.
- Care and maintenance of our existing 140sq ft cooperative garden and 15' x 20' high-tunnel greenhouse (building a compost system, organic pest deterrent, sustainable watering, tools, signage & more.)
The Hollyvilla Garden Story
My family and I moved to the south end of Louisville last year. We quickly fell in love with our little community but realized that the area was facing some significant challenges. Namely, it is an area classified as a food desert because of proximity to grocery stores selling fresh food and lack of reliable public transportation.
My neighbors and I were inspired to create a community garden that not only increases access to local, healthy food, but also offers opportunities for our kids and aging community to engage in meaningful physical activity. Securing the grants and volunteers needed to build our 15' x 20' high-tunnel greenhouse and 140sq ft cooperative garden in Spring 2024, was instrumental towards our goal of providing more than 50lbs of food, each growing season, to the community. We can't wait to see how much we accomplish, with your help, in 2025! We welcome any support or guidance you can provide.
If you would like to support through non-monetary ways or donate supplies/time to the garden, Contact Us, we would be glad to hear from you!
