The Highlanders Junior Football Club (HJFC) is a group of community members, coaches, and football players in the Renton Highlands who are dedicated to creating a football program for Hazen-district middle and elementary school kids. We are rooted in a deep commitment to the Renton community and are motivated to provide opportunities to all of our kids – regardless of family income.
In the Hazen district, about 30% of students receive free or reduced lunch, and many others also have financial difficulties that bar families from paying HJFA’s $375 registration fee. By providing need-based scholarships, we hope to open up opportunities for all students to be able to participate in HJFA.
Through a partnership with the Greater Eastside Football Association (GEFA) and Hazen coaching staff, we are forming a program that is tailored to the Renton community and will feed into the Hazen High School football program. HJFC aims to create a safe space for kids to become involved in their community, have fun, make new friends, and, of course, learn the fundamentals of football. HJFC teaches the values of accountability, character, and teamwork through competition. The program follows GEFA’s guidelines for safety and playing time, ensuring that all of our students remain safe and get equal playing time on the field.
We want this program to be created by the community and to serve those in the Renton Highlands. That’s why we need your help to launch this program – through your time, talent, and financial contributions. Your donation will go towards need-based scholarships and other start-up costs for our first season of Highlanders Junior Football.
