About the Project

We are the Highline High School Environmental Club officers and student leaders of the Highline High School 100kW Solar Project. We are partnering with these organizations based in Washington State: Spark Northwest, Sustainable Burien, and Burien People for Climate Actions (Burien PCA) to make this project a reality. We have been working on this project since August 2020. Since then, we received a generous amount of professional support from additional interested parties: Highline School District Board Vice President Joe Van, staff of Operation Division at Highline School District, the B-town blog, a number of council members from the city of Burien, and leaders at The Mountain To Sound Greenway Trust non-profit organization.

Our Mission:

The goal is to give Highline students access to sustainable technology: solar panels to help our school switch to a renewable energy source, and reduce its carbon footprint. We want Highline High School to be able to proudly say that we ARE taking needed action towards climate and social justice! Sustainability is for all, and no school shall be left behind. The next green hub could start right here in our beloved town: B-town!

With limited resources, the ability to interact with renewable energy would open more educational opportunities for students within the STEM field and bring awareness to green jobs. We hope this project will inspire students to take action and continue to improve our community.

We want future students at Highline to be proud that we took the initiative to make a difference. Some people may ask, what difference can our school make? We are creating a sequence of actions that’s bound to make a bigger impact than we can ever imagine. Our solar project might be the first, but it will certainly not be the last in the Highline School District. This project is a living proof that solar energy is attainable in any neighborhood, even those with modest per capita incomes. And YOU will help us get there!

Our goal is to have this project fully funded by Spring of 2021.

We are asking for the total amount it would cost to fund this project, even though we will still work on applying for grants, loans, and issuing bonds to help fund the project.

We are grateful for any amount you donate towards our project. When you donate, you will give our community and the students access to sustainable technology that benefits our overall environment and every one of us for many years to come.

We sincerely thank you for joining us on this journey!
