Highway Trees for Parklands

Donation protected

Local Chichester Tree Wardens are fundraising to plant street trees in Parklands, Chichester.

This would give our community something to look forward to and leave a legacy for future generations, as previous generations did with the trees they left, or planted, for us.

Street trees not only look good, they give oxygen, shade/cooling, clean air; reduce flooding; support wildlife; and improve our own mental health and wellbeing.

If you would like to support this project, we would be grateful for your donation of whatever you can afford to put towards this purpose.

For trees to be planted this winter, the deadline for donations is mid July.

Each tree location will be checked for suitability by West Sussex County Council, and the tree sourced and planted on behalf of WSCC at a cost of £150 per tree under its Donate a Tree Scheme  (if you wish to donate a tree direct, to be planted in the verge outside your home this winter, please note that the deadline for applications is the end of July - not the end of August as may be showing on the weblink).

Please “mind the gaps” and help us fill them. We will be working with our Parklands community to identify where the trees should go, and with WSCC to help decide what trees are appropriate to be planted where.  Please let us know where you would like to see new street trees planted.

Approximately 3% of donations will be taken by gofundme for processing fees, meaning we need to raise £155 to fund each tree. We will donate as many trees as the funds raised allow, putting any remaining monies less than £155 towards other public tree-related expenditure, which may include tree gators (specialist bags fitted around tree bases to help water the tree) and publicity costs. For example, £1,200 would fund 7 trees, leaving £115 to buy gators (approximately £25 per bag) and/or print leaflets to reach more people and hopefully raise more funds.

Thank you for your support.

We would love to hear your tree stories/inspiration and ideas.
