Hiking Mulhacén to Give Shelter Dogs a Second Chance

Hi I am James. Jaz who is also a volunteer is helping to organize this fundraiser. I have climbed the highest mountain in Mainland Spain (3482 m) in an attempt to raise money from people who would like to support this wonderful shelter for abandoned dogs. The goal is to get funds for transport fees so the dogs that have been in the shelter for years can get a second chance of life. Many times we have families but no financial means to send the dogs to them. This is truly sad.

I have been working as a volunteer at Asociation Fidelio Refugio Benalmádena (www.PERROSSINHOGAR.com) for around two months now. I have been greatly inspired by how the volunteers run the shelter. The amount of time, energy and love that goes in to looking after those dogs is amazing.

I have been volunteering as a dog walker and trying to take some of the more energetic dogs on longer walks/hikes so that they get the exercise and experience they need.

I really feel that trying to build a bond with these dogs is important so that they feel more loved and cared for. But unfortunately at the end of the day when we go home they are left alone for long periods of time and it is truly sad.

This is why myself and the team at the shelter would like to try and raise some money to be used for the purpose of finding new homes and adoptees for the dogs who have been at the shelter the longest. The funds will be withdrawn by Jaz and donated directly to the shelter and be used solely for transport fees to send long term dogs to other cities and countries.

Hola soy James. Jaz, que también es voluntaria, está ayudando a organizar esta recaudación de fondos. He escalado la montaña más alta de España peninsular (3482 m) en un intento de recaudar dinero de personas que quieran apoyar a este maravilloso refugio para perros abandonados.El objetivo es conseguir fondos para los gastos de transporte para que los perros que han estado en el refugio durante años puedan tener una segunda oportunidad de vida. Muchas veces tenemos familias pero no tenemos medios económicos para enviarles a los perros. Esto es realmente triste.

Llevo unos dos meses trabajando como voluntario en la Asociación Fidelio Refugio Benalmádena (www.PERROSSINHOGAR.com). Me ha inspirado mucho la forma en que los voluntarios gestionan el refugio. La cantidad de tiempo, energía y amor que dedican a cuidar de esos perros es increíble.

Me he ofrecido como paseadora e intento llevar a algunos de los perros más enérgicos a dar paseos más largos para que hagan el ejercicio y adquieran la experiencia que necesitan.

Creo que es importante crear un vínculo con estos perros para que se sientan más queridos y cuidados. Pero, por desgracia, al final del día, cuando nos vamos a casa, se quedan solos durante largos periodos de tiempo y es realmente triste.

Es por eso que a mi y al equipo del refugio nos gustaria intentar recaudar algo de dinero para ser usado con el proposito de encontrar nuevos hogares y adoptantes para los perros que llevan mas tiempo en el refugio. Los fondos serán retirados por Jaz y donados directamente a la protectora y se destinarán exclusivamente a gastos de transporte para enviar perros de larga estancia a otras ciudades y países.
