Hilary Storm Devastates Las Vegas Soaring Club
Donation protected
On behalf of the Las Vegas Soaring Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, We are reaching out to humbly request your support and generous donation towards our cause. We believe that your commitment to making a positive impact aligns perfectly with our mission, and we kindly request your consideration in supporting our efforts. On August 23, 2023, Tropical Storm Hillary dumped 4 inches of rain in a 48 hours period which is equal to our annual yearly rainfall. The rain had a devastating effect on the soaring club's sailplane winch line, washing away the top soil, and leaving a boulder field behind.
The Las Vegas Soaring Club began in 1992, and has become one of the oldest and largest RC clubs in the Southwest. The Las Vegas Soaring Club has the only electric winch for launching gliders in Las Vegas, Nevada. One of the reasons we have become so large is that our members are knowledgeable, creative, diversified, and above all...supportive and friendly towards new and existing members as well as visitors interested in the hobby of model flying. There is a noticeable camaraderie on the field as members work together to further enhance and promote the sport of RC flying and Soaring. We encourage the younger generation (boys and girls) to participate and learn about RC flying and offer on-the-field training to those interested in flying. Because of all this our club continues to evolve and grow into a very diversified RC sailplane and electric flying club. Members may fly any RC sailplanes or electric operated aircraft within the guidelines of the club field rules, AMA guidelines and FAA regulations. The Las Vegas Soaring Club is an AMA Gold Leader with members flying everything from gliders, and jets to helicopters and drones.
The Soaring Club is looking to restore the sailplane winch line path and build in future flood control measures which is estimated to cost $10,000 or more. There are both Federal and County permits which need to be obtained prior to any commencement of work. While we already have repaired the ground around the winch launch area and guide post anchors, we need your help to accomplish the remainder restoration.
Your donation will have an enormous impact on the Las Vegas RC flying community along with it's youth and the future of the modeling community.
Thank you in advance for your donation.
Sincerely,
Michael Dantonio
