Hill Sisters World Skate Games 2023 & 2024
Donation protected
Two of the Hill sisters, Katerina Hill and Rose Hill, have both been ranked #1 in the Canadian women’s category for Downhill Skateboarding and Street luge. This has qualified them for both the 2023 & 2024 World Skate Championships that will be happening in the Philippines (February 22-25, 2024) and Italy (September 17-21, 2024).
Katerina Hill had attended the previous World Skate Games which took place in Argentina (November 2022), where she brought home a 6th place world ranking for women in Downhill Skateboarding.
Rose Hill started street luging near the end of April in 2023, and improved so quickly that she managed to climb all the way to the #1 spot for women in street luging in Canada. If she’s able to make it, the 2023 Philippines Championship would be her first World Skate Championship.
Unfortunately when World Skate announced that they would be holding a 2023 championship in the Philippines, they had only given the athletes an 82 day notice. Due to the last minute notice, both Katerina and Rose originally opted not to go, as they were not sure they’d be able to get the funds in time for the both of them.
Funding a trip like this for the Hill sisters is especially difficult since Katerina has recently became the legal guardian of her younger sisters (age 11 and 17). The Hill sisters lost their mother to cancer this last summer, and their father to a stroke 5 years ago.
Katerina would need to bring her youngest sister as well, as she’s currently the only guardian over her. She’s still working through legal paperwork (as it takes quite a while to process), so she doesn’t want to leave either of her sisters with anyone else until everything has gone through properly. The youngest, Taisya Hill, happens to hold a #4 rank in Canada for women in street luge. Although, due to her age, we’re unsure if she is eligible to be an alternate for the team yet.
The reason for this last minute GoFundMe is due to the recent decision of the Canadian Downhill Committee to give them until February 1st, rather than the original date of December 20th, to confirm their attendance for the World Skate Championship in the Philippines. The Hill sisters have decided that they would give fundraising a shot, due to the Canadian Downhill committee (and other teammates) putting in the work to try and make it possible for them to attend.
The GoFundMe funds will be going towards both the 2023 and 2024 World Skate Games Championships. They have until February 1st to see if they can raise enough funds to make it to the 2023 Championship happening in the Philippines. Any help is appreciated, even just sharing their story and sharing their fundraiser.
Any extra funds raised will go towards helping other athletes on the Canadian Downhill team.
