Himalayan Adventure And The Simon Andrews Fund
The purpose of this is to raise funds for injured motorbike riders from the Isle of Man TT races. Please double tap lower down on the page for access to the fund raising page. Thank you.
If this has been forwarded onto you and you have no idea who I am a brief explanation. My name is Paul Owen, I am 62 years old, A Boeing 777 Pilot for British Airways, now part-time and using my part time month-off to return to the Himalayas. Oh yes, I like motorbikes as well….
A couple of firsts for me here.
Firstly setting up a gofundme page and secondly climbing a mountain in the Himalayas that is over 20,000ft.
I appreciate there are many charities in need of financial help and my choice is a little obscure especially if you are not into motorbikes like I am.
Please read on …..
On 16th March this year I am flying to the Himalaya for three weeks to trek to Everest Base camp and to then climb a mountain called Island Peak. Maybe look at the link below on utube, it lasts a little over four minutes, if you are in a rush, fast forward to start two minutes into the video.
Island Peak is the mountain Sir Edmund Hilary used for training before being the first to climb Everest.
I am going outside my comfort zone in a big way, reaching a height of over 20,000ft, crossing Glaciers, Crevasses with ladders whilst wearing crampons and ice climbing….all of which I have never done before.
I will try & post some interesting photos on my Facebook page if you would like to follow my progress.
As a keen motorcyclist I am a big supporter of the Isle of Man TT races. Sadly these brave (some would say crazy, daft, mad!) riders get hurt and need intense medical care and rehabilitation for many months after the event. The parents of one rider that was killed whilst racing his motorcycle set up this fund in memory of their son Simon Andrews. The main purpose of the fund is to make money available to help the rehabilitation of injured riders.
All I ask is that you make a small donation on my go fund me page. Every penny donated will go to the The Simon Andrews Fund. Any donation large or small would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to very short video about the fund.
Island Peak is actually 6160m high. I have set a goal to reach £6,160 for the fund but even if with your help we only raise £616 that would be fabulous.
Like I said earlier a rather obscure charity that sadly struggles to raise funds.
Many thanks for your support.
Yours
Paul Owen.
