MISSION:
Creating awareness of humanism in our community.
OBJECTIVES:
• For a state professing a neutral life stance, freedom to choose any life stance and respect for human rights in a diverse society of different customs, norms, traditions and beliefs.
• To offer members a social and organizational framework for life stance identity, fellowship and care services.
• To increase knowledge of humanism and the organization’s activities.
• To encourage moral excellence, positive relationships and human dignity in society.
• To contribute to the eradication of poverty.
STRATEGY:
Sustainable community-based initiatives for the development of the target group through vocational training, psychosocial support, health, economic and social development efforts.
Humanists in Northern Uganda schools are located about 15 kilometres away from Gulu city center. Gulu district is a district still recovering from the post-war era which lasted almost 23 years. The war kept most people in internally displaced people camps. The war left so many orphans and HIV/AIDS infected people.
Most parents in the village are mainly subsistence farmers and the little they plant ends up also in the local markets to raise school fees for their children and leaving the children with nothing to eat.
Humanists in Northern Uganda has got two schools. The Preschool with a currently low enrolment of 57 children from the ages ranging from 3 years to 6 years.
And the primary school is with 17 children enrolled from 6 years to 15 years of age.
Lunch fund is to help children studying in the only secular schools in Northern Uganda.
Most of these children come from families that can only afford at least a single meal a day. With parents who have not attended any or little formal education. Their source of income is hand digging for others for some little pay. They do not consider feeding as an important aspect of education and brain development of a child.
Feeding these children will keep them in School and also boosts their concentration in class. This will also help increase children enrolment at the school.
