INTRO
We're opening our new restaurant in August 2018 - Unit 2, Sawmill Court, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 6BF and need a little help over the finish line.
VISION
We just want a proper nice licensed chippy restaurant with a duty to help the local community and a desire to preserve & progress the appreciation of hip-hop culture.
Simple food, done well catering for fish, meat, veg, vegan and gluten-free at an affordable price - with a great sound system, nice things to look at and top-notch service.
Traditional methods of finance and loans are only going so far... Our business plan, profit & loss, cashflow forecasts and past successes all stack up, but a famous chef broke loads of his restaurants so lending options are limited...
FUNDING GOALS
Roughly speaking, the assets and equipment equates to around £150k. I know! It's not cheap this restaurant lark! The rest is going to be used for build costs and initial cashflow.
We're still negotiating with lenders but roughly funding will come from 2 x Business Growth Loans, 3 x Personal Loans and Asset Finance/Leasing - all of which have high interest rates!
It's not all-or-nothing. If we get £5k, we'll be made up, if we make £50k or more it'd be incredible and takes a huge weight off our shoulders instead of paying loads on interest and guarentees us "bums on seats" when we open.
REWARDS
You don't get owt for nowt. No writing on walls, just simply buying a meal in advance (see side panel) to help us out with start-up costs. It's not fixed to these rewards, if there is something else you want to do, just get in touch.
BACKGROUND
Me, my mate (Luke) and my girlfriend (Holly), built this business from scratch just over 4 years ago and have ploughed everything we have into it... financially and physically. The support we have is unrivalled, it's unbelievable. Everyone has been so supportive of us since we launched.
Last year we were buzzing to have won “Best Mobile Fish & Chip Operator” (National Fish & Chip Awards 2017) and “Street Food Trader Of The Year” (Manchester Food & Drink Awards 2017).
Since then, we’ve catered 200+ weddings, parties, festivals & corporate events garnering column inches in both local and national press alike - and met some heroes along the way – EPMD’s Erick Sermon, the not Game Of Thrones version of Jon Snow and Man vs. Food's Adam Richman visited us at MediaCityUK (video)
We've always been mad on rap music, collecting awkward pics of rappers like pokemon since my early teens. Although my hair has gone the love for the artform has only grown stronger - although I've not been able to remember any lyrics from songs past 1997.
PROJECTS & CAUSES
The more successful we are, the more helping hands we should offer to those around us. We’re going to work closely with:
Foodinate & Mustard Tree #EatMealGiveMeal - Just around the corner from our new spot is Mustard Tree who help people trapped in poverty and homelessness. Using foodinate, every time you buy a certain dish off our menu, we’ll donate a meal to Mustard Tree.
Wood Street Mission - They have been helping children and families in Manchester and Salford living in poverty since 1869. We’re going to help fundraising and collecting good quality children’s and adults clothing, toys, bedding and baby equipment and new toys.
Not Just Soup - We’re going to continue to provide free hot meals to Manchester’s homeless people regularly throughout the year.
Trafford College - We volunteer on the college’s Career Ready programme offering a year-long mentorship with a student to help them prepare for the world of work.
Manchester Hip-Hop Archives - We’ll provide help and support in documenting youth culture in Manchester since the ‘80s.
EVENT IDEAS
Here's a few things that we could look to host.
Gluten-free day (every month)
Art exhibitions / Live art battles
Live music performances
Jam sessions w/ live hip-hop band
Freestyle Fictionary - like a hip-hop Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Workshops for kids teaching songwriting, beatboxing, rapping etc
Documentary/Film screenings
Artist in-store album launches, interviews, signings, merch etc
SUMMARY
We would be extremely grateful if anybody can throw a couple of quid here and there for a meal in advance whether it's a takeaway, dine-in or a group booking.
