Historic Arroyo Seco-L.A. vs Beverly Hills Condos

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
RE: The neighborhood of Sycamore Grove / Highland Park / Montecito Heights / Mt. Washington / Lincoln Heights
We are still battling the outrageous NELA Plaza land-grab (re-named for the third time as “The Belvedere”): a 113-unit, 7-story condo project by a Beverly Hills developer which will overwhelm the 1 to 2-story neighboring homes and not respect its historic context at the corner of Figueroa Street and Pasadena Avenue in the Arroyo Seco Corridor of North East Los Angeles. After a long delay, the City, unfortunately, approved this out-of-scale and poorly designed condo project, likely due to the fact that the outgoing council member, Gil Cedillo, had stopped representing his constituents after losing the election and let the project proceed without protest.
Our organization, the Arroyo Seco Alliance, continues to fight the former NELA Plaza project through the complex and opaque City approval processes and is prepared to use legal means as necessary through the environmental lawsuits that bring some form of checks and balance to the City's complete lack of oversight over the development process and its outcomes. To fight this fight, we need assistance in raising our legal funds in order to hire the necessary legal counsel to represent our case fairly.
This out-of-scale and poorly designed condo project is NOT FAIR and will clearly ruin the neighborhood, not enhance it in our view as community members.
Furthermore, this will be used as a precedent for future developments to lower the bar and wreak havoc on the Arroyo Seco Corridor and NELA more generally.
There is NO time to waste. We need to raise a minimum of $5,000 and as much as $15,000 to fight this Goliath perversion of corporate power.
Please give what you can this week. Large or small will be greatly appreciated. We are a non-profit, public benefit association registered with the state of California, but please review any deductions with your accountant.
