Historic Murray's Mill Water Wheel Repairs

Hi, my name is Susan Holbrook. I am the Interim Director for the Historical Association of Catawba County. Our historic Murray's Mill needs a new 28' water wheel.

A ten-minute hop, skip, and a jump from I-40, the Murray’s Mill Historic District, in the rolling countryside of eastern Catawba County, nestles just as it was a century ago along the banks of Balls Creek. It's perfect for an afternoon picnic or a quick leg-stretcher. A tranquil pond slips over a mill dam, and the 28’ waterwheel of this National Register Historic Site makes its way around.

The buckets of the waterwheel are rusted with holes in the old repaired welds, and many new rust damages have appeared. Help us repair and restore the old mill and continue our mission to preserve the past of one of Catawba County's dearest treasures. Every donation makes a difference.
