Hit by a Train and Survived - Now to Live Her Life
Donation protected
On May 18, 2020, my niece Camerine (27) and her husband Lonnie R. Reynolds II (34), were hit by an Amtrak passenger train near the Mississippi and Louisiana border in the area of Nicholson, MS.
Lonnie was killed instantly, but Camerine survived with devastating injuries to her entire body, including her left leg, left foot, shattered pelvis, liver, colon, left arm, right lung, right scapula, right collarbone, her teeth, and her left ear.
We are putting together this GoFundMe to begin to immediately address the substantial costs being incurred by Camerine and by our family. Camerine has had over two dozen surgical procedures and, at this time, release from the hospital is measured in months. During this time Camerine's siblings and mother are trying to be with her as often as possible even though the siblings live ~100 miles away and my sister lives in Nevada.
While the medical and transportation costs are already significant, they will pale in comparison to the care and needs Camerine will have when she is released later this year. The hospital has just informed us that Camerine will need a van with a wheelchair ramp as she will not be able to transfer to a seat. We have started looking for these kinds of vans and they run upwards of $60-70,000 USD.
Camerine and Lonnie were one day past their first wedding anniversary and despite their best efforts they were not prepared for this scale of financial emergency. We welcome all the prayers and positive thoughts for Camerine and, if you are able, any amount that you can contribute would be welcomed by our grateful family.
