Syd's Hit & Run Recovery Fund

On June 30th at 10:00 AM my best friend, Sydney, was riding an electric scooter to yoga when she was hit and knocked unconscious by a car at a crosswalk.
The driver fled the scene, leaving Sydney alone, bleeding, and severely injured in the middle of the road. She didn’t even regain consciousness until she was almost to the hospital in the ambulance.
Her injuries include a compound fracture to her ankle where tire marks were left on her skin that will require a skin graft, two fractures to her right tibia, several lumbar fractures on her spine, two fractures to her left wrist, a skull fracture, and a variety of bruises and road rash; this doesn’t include the emotional or financial toll this will take on her.

As a result, she was in the hospital for 15 days undergoing three surgeries and we are anticipating at least one more to come. Post-operation physical rehabilitation will also be required to help her rebuild strength & fine motor skills.
The doctors say that she is lucky to be alive and for that and we are so thankful! Sydney is a loving, beautiful spirit who works hard and cares deeply for others. She enjoys being active and living life to the fullest, and I want to make sure that she’s still able to sustain her day-to-day life while she works to fulfill her dreams.
Sydney’s first love is music, and it’s how she makes her living. She’s known around Austin and beyond for being the live-looping one-lady-band that plays guitar, piano, drums, and sings. Apart from her musical talent, she supports herself as a live sound engineer, a DJ, and the Live Music Yoga Coordinator at Wanderlust Yoga in Austin. This boss babe wears many hats, and she rocks every single one.
Although she’s trying to push herself to do as much as she can from home, (against the advice of her friends and family) most of her income is made performing solo, DJ, and audio production gigs — including mixing as a live sound engineer and building stages. The traumatic injuries she sustained from this incident will leave her off her feet or using a walker for several months.
I wish I could take all of the pain away and get her back on her feet, but I can’t change what happened. However, what I can do is gather the support she needs to get her through these next few months.
If you haven’t had the absolute pleasure of meeting Sydney, she is an incredibly hard-working, independent, and self-motivated individual. This time off will be hard on her, and this campaign is intended to help Syd pay her bills during these months when she will be unable to work.
This is a rally cry to all of you music & Sydney lovers to give whatever you can to help support our girl on her way to recovery! Please share this campaign on your social media pages and help shower Syd with love and encouragement!
