HJ Sailing Golden Globe Race
Donation protected
Hi Team,
Ian here, this is my gofundme page which will (fingers crossed) help me get to both the start and the finish lines of the 2022 Golden Globe Race.
I'll be sailing my yacht Puffin, 30,000 nautical miles, around the world, non-stop, unassisted and alone for up to 9 months at sea.
The way the Golden Globe Race differs from any other race is that it only allows competitors to use traditional boats, with no assistance from high-tech materials or modern technology, so no GPS!
I'll have to chart my course across the world's oceans both alone and only using celestial navigation, sextants, paper charts and wind-up clocks... there's no App for me in this race!
The race will take me through some of the most hostile environments on earth, where I will be completely self sufficient with only the food that I can carry, the rainwater that I can catch and the energy I can produce with my solar panels on board.
It remains an amazing fact that more people have travelled into space then have circumnavigated the Great Capes through the Southern Ocean alone.
Although this is the ultimate solo race, it really can't be achieved alone!
I've already formed a small team to support me as I prepare both the boat and myself for this life changing adventure and we're hoping to build a bigger community around the campaign.
So I'm now looking for more people to join the Team HJ community and help us in our goal to reach the start line Les Sables d'Olonne in September 2022 and in doing so put Puffin and I in the best possible position to successfully complete this enormous challenge.
In exchange for your support, I hope to share this journey with you and take you along with Puffin and I on this epic adventure.
Just to give you a little taster of our shopping list, here's a few things the gofundme page would help to contribute towards:
Freeze dried dinner for one: £6
Freeze dried meals for a week: £125
EPIRB Emergency Positioning Beacon: £400
Complete set of charts (maps) for the voyage: £1,000
Offshore GGR certified medical kit: £1,500
Foul weather sailing gear: £2,000
HF long range radio: £3,000
Ocean GGR certified Life Raft: £4,000
Sail wardrobe of 10 sails: £15,000
Lot's of dry socks: Priceless...
Please join us on the adventure and support the campaign in any way you can.
Many thanks,
Ian HJ
