Woodland Lakers With Team Tina

Donation protected
Hello, we are friends and classmates from Woodland Elementary school in Semora NC. We are reaching out to help one of our long time friends and classmate raise money to help with their financial burden. We are truly blessed by her faith and commitment to her familyand friends and would love to share in this opportunity to give back to her as she has done so much in her role as mother, nurse, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

Family, Friendship and Faith – are the three things Tina Butcher Retzlaff clings to every day. They also describe what Tina’s life is about. Tina’s classmates and lifelong friends from Woodland Elementary School have come together to form “Tina’s Team” in an effort to ease the financial burdens caused by Tina’s fight against cancer for the last nine years. In 2007 Tina was initially diagnosed with swanoma behind her knee. She went in to Durham Regional Specialty Center for surgery. Little did Tina know that the strongest fight of her life was moments before her. While undergoing surgery the doctors discovered the dreadful six letter word- “CANCER”. A tumor the size of a baseball was discovered and she was quickly referred to Duke where she underwent amputation of her leg above the knee. After surgery all went well. She was told after her three year scan that things looked good. However, at her next six month scan where they found the cancer was present in both lungs, on her spleen and outside then lungs in the abdomen. Tina underwent several months of chemo treatments to fight the cancer. In 2014 Tina woke up with a massive headache. She was transported to Person Memorial where a CT scan revealed a massive tumor. She was then life flighted to Duke Medical Center. Her health was deteriorating by the hour. Doctors encouraged her husband to call in her family because they thought her time was running short. Well little did the doctors know that Tina’s faith was strong. Dr. Fecci approached her husband and told him he thought he could remove the large tumor and do radiation for the four smaller tumors. Surgery went well and she was healing nicely. About two months later she began to have major seizures. A massive blood clot had developed where the tumor had been. The doctors decided to let the blood clot dissipate. During a six month checkup the brain was clear however it was back in her lungs. Tina began taking oral chemo to help fight the cancer in her lungs. The oral chemo is working and the tumors are not growing. Tina’s faith and surrounding love from family and friends has helped her fight this amazing battle. When talking with Tina about her battle she always finds a positive. Tina’s role as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and a child of God has continued as strong as ever. We pray you will find it in your heart to help Tina and her family by donating. Her family wants to spend time with HER – not time worrying about how to provide every day necessities.
