Champ was found laying lifeless on the side of the road in Cleveland Ohio. He was found by a Good Samaritin and taken to an emergency veterinary hospital. Unfortunately, because the Good Samaritin didn't have the funds to pay for his medical care, the emergency vet was unable to treat him and he was picked up by Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. Upon arrival at county, X-rays were performed and it was discovered that he had a severely broken and displaced pelvis, and a shattered femur. Due to the laws of the county, Champ had to be held by the county shelter for 72 hours without medical treatment and very little pain medication. His 72 hour hold expired this morning at 9am (Feb. 6). Luckily, Ruff House Animal Rescue (RHAR) kindly stepped up to the plate. He was picked up by Ashley Dawson and Jill Udell and was rushed immediately to Greystone Veterinary Hospital to be treated and examined by Dr. Kostal and her amazing staff! Upon further examination, Champ is estimated to be about 7 years old. His pelvis will need some major repairs and due to the severity of leg damage, unfortunately his right rear leg will have to be amputated. Champ is now receiving intense pain medication to keep him comfortable and he is being treated like a king at his foster home and will receive his amputation by Dr Kostal at Greystone on Monday morning (Feb 8). Also, I feel it's important to note that Champ did have a microchip. Unfortunately, when county tried to track them down, it was found that Champ was previously owned by a puppy mill out of state. This poor guy has had a very rough life. Despite his condition, he is incredibly sweet. His will to live and his loving demeanor has blown us all away. Please help us get him back to health so we can find the perfect forever family where he can live out the rest of his years being pampered and well taken care of. After what he's been through, he sure deserves it.
