Harker Ukraine Fundraiser
Tax deductible
Overview
The ASB along with various student organizations dedicated to community service and humanitarian missions are hosting this fundraiser for the UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency) to provide aid toward the humanitarian and diplomatic crisis in Ukraine.
Purpose
Recently, the Russian government—led by Vladimir Putin—has staged an invasion of neighboring country Ukraine, engendering a widespread humanitarian crisis in Ukraine coupled with increased repression in Russia . To honor not only those around us with loved ones on either side of the border affected by the conflict but also our school-wide commitment to community service and global connection, we hope to once again rally the Harker community in a broader, collective effort to make an impact in our fractured world and strengthen our own resolve to look beyond our local sphere.
Our past few years together have been defined by adaptability—accepting the volatility of our circumstances and assisting one another in pushing forward. Yet, we want to go one step further and respond to our world’s developments with immediate selflessness, pushing the boundaries of what we, collectively, can accomplish. To this end, we’re starting a fundraiser synthesizing many of the student-led humanitarian and service organizations on campus, broadening our scope and scale from any past initiative. We hope, with this renewed focus on cooperation and commitment to helping those in need, we can make a difference in as many people’s lives as necessary.
All proceeds will go to the UN Refugee Agency. In Ukraine, the UNHCR is currently leading refugee assistance efforts to assist the millions with destroyed homes or displaced from their hometowns, providing emergency relief in the form of shelter and cash aid.
