Hello, my name is Shatoya Dickens. I've been struggling for a long time with pain due to fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia affects my legs the most. The cold makes my legs hurt, and they get weak upon standing. I also get fatigued very, very easily. The pain is indescribable. There isn't a cure for fibromyalgia. The only thing you can do is manage the symptoms. My doctors and I have been doing our best with managing the symptoms and pain. Last week, I was given some news that I wasn't really expecting. I was expecting news of some sort, but not this. Some of you may know that I had COVID in 2021. Well, a few months ago, I started having shortness of breath and severe fatigue. I had no clue where it was coming from, but I kind of had an indication that it had something to do with when I had Covid. I went to my PCP, my pulmonary doctor, my cardiologist, and many visits to the ER. My pulmonary doctor put in the order for me to wear a pulse ox watch. I wore the watch overnight, and it recorded my oxygen level, pulse, and my heart rate. My pulmonary doctor started me on oxygen immediately (mainly at night). That didn't help much! All of my doctors communicated and came up with a plan for me to get a left and right heart cath done. They expressed sincere concerns due to the fact that I already have atrial fibulation and extremely high blood pressure. I applied for disability back in August of 2023, and I was denied. I have appealed the decision, and I'm currently waiting for a decision from them. I had the heart cath done last Wednesday, February 21, 2024, and found out that I am a Type 2 diabetic, fluid around my heart, fluid in my lungs, my heart is in distress and I have chronic heart failure. So that explains why I've been so fatigued and out of breath from doing nothing. These last few months, I've been pushing myself to keep going, but I'm struggling mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially. As much as I would love to continue working full-time or even part-time, I'm not going to be able to do that for too much longer like I intended. I need help! I need to help with gas getting to my many appointments, co-pays for doctor visits, co-pays for medication, keeping up with my bills, and any therapies not covered by my insurance. I still have to be able to tend to my 17 year old disabled son, Devonte. At this point, my husband, mom, and son are taking care of me when I can't do it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
