EggDog, Helping Kids With Autism
Donation protected
HISTORY OF CREATION
My name is Brian Dickson and I live in Los Angeles with my three sons: Orion-11 years old, Sebastian-10, and Oden-1. Orion and Sebastian are both on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While Orion is high-functioning and enjoys socializing with other kids, Sebastian does not and is nearly non-verbal. He finds comfort in communicating through technology such as a tablet or pointing at objects. The essence of EggDog came from the mind of my boy Sebastian, who at the time was nine years old. It was right around Easter time and we had a bunch of plastic eggs all over. Sebastian picked up a tiny stuffed dog toy and put one of the little plastic egg shells on its head and VIOLA! He had created EggDog!
He carried this new play toy around for over a year, helping him to communicate with me. Sebastian would say “EggDog bed,” when it was time to go to bed. I couldn’t help but feel for the first time we had discovered a way for the two of us to communicate to each other through this creation called EggDog! I developed the EggDog App because of my sons, and believed that if it was possible for me and Sebastian to communicate with one another through EggDog that there could be other families with the same challenges that could communicate with each other through EggDog.
There are infinite possibilities for all children to have access to an educational tool that can enhance their lives in a new and innovative way. This app can be used by all children, both neuro-typical kids and those with ASD. My dream is that through EggDog's world, we can seamlessly bring neuro-typical and ASD children together and create a platform that can help bridge the communication barriers that exist at times. EggDog can also help parents on how to to engage, educate, and entertain children from all over the globe.
ABOUT EGGDOG
We are happy to be sharing a brand new application designed to support children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to develop every day
skills. The application’s name is Eggdog and it is not just for children with ASD but rather for everyone. It is a game that helps bridge the gap that
exists between those who live with ASD and neurotypically developing children. Eggdog is a character that becomes the user’s pet and friend,
allowing the user takes care of Eggdog but simultaneously learn life skills for self-care as well.
Eggdog is set up to help any ASD child better interact with peers and adults by serving as the common ground intermediary. Eggdog features
help users with emotional self-regulation, physical awareness, and reading non-verbal cues, facial expressions, and body language.
As we continue to build out Eggdog through the support of investors and donors, we will build out advanced features that add to the experience
for all those interacting with Eggdog including:
· Touch to speak interface: By tapping Eggdog, the user will receive visual and auditory feedback on what Eggdog needs.
· Eggdog Land: Users will be able to create a virtual hangout area for their Eggdog to play with other Eggdog users.
· Eggdog in the real world: Users will be able to place Eggdog in their own environment through video and photos using the smartphone
camera.
