Craig Dyer's Lung Transplant
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Matthew Dyer and I am the son of Craig Dyer. I am 21 years old and I am a specialist in the United States Army (active duty). When my father was 42, he was diagnosed with a rare lung disease called Alpha One Antitrypsin Deficiency, and Emphysema.

This disease has caused his lung capacity to drop rapidly over the course of his life, and went untreated for 42 years because the disease is genetic. He is now 53, and his lung capacity is down to 24 percent. He was told in July he will have no more than two years to live unless he receives a double lung transplant.
I enlisted in the army when I was 18 in June of 2012. I have sacrificed a lot in life for this demanding job, including the last two and a half years I could have spent with my parents. I am currently stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where I have been for 22 months. My father is a veteran and he served in the early 80s for four years. My mother, Karla Dyer, was run over by a car when she was five years old and she is partially paralyzed, so neither of my parents can work.
The procedure will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina. My parents currently live in Windham, Maine, where me and my 22 year old sister Lindsey were born and raised. My dad was informed that the donor program and doctors who specialize in this type of operation are regarded as some of the best in the country in Raleigh, and I will be able to go be with him. The entire process is going to require him to be in the hospital in Raleigh for 8 months. He will need to get the transplant by March. The insurance company will cover the costs of the procedure, but my parents do not have the money for travel and lodging and living expenses for my mother.
This is the purpose of this page. My dad needs this procedure one way or another, and my parents do not have the funds to get it done. I was scheduled to deploy sometime this year (opsec), but I am not going so I can be with my dad during his procedure. Please help in anyway you can. I see my dad two weeks a year, and I want to be able to raise enough money for my parents expenses being in Raleigh for 8 months. Thank you all for the support.
