Mollie(PK213) & Noah(PK214)-Project Kenya 2023(2)

Hi, we're Mollie and Noah Barratt. We attend 1st Hinton St George Scout Group. Next year we are really excited to be travelling to Kenya with Somerset Scouts as part of Project Kenya 2023. we are currently fundraising for this once in a lifetime experience. We have lots of fundraising activities planned over the next year. We know times are hard at the moment, so any support you can give us at this time would be greatly appreciated.

Somerset Scouts’ Project Kenya will take place in August 2023. A team of Somerset Scouts and adult volunteers will travel in two groups to volunteer at three primary schools in Nakuru, Kenya. During our trip, we will continue to develop the international partnership with these charity-funded schools, that began in 2019. The organisations with whom we work cater for children who are orphaned or from very underprivileged backgrounds.

Whilst in Nakuru, we will also be able to get involved with the Troop of Kenyan Scouts at Melon Mission School - sharing our Scouting values and ideas with them. The volunteering opportunities will cover a range of experiences: delivering creative and fun activities that engage the children in learning, singing and playing as well as low-level maintenance work within the school sites (eg: painting, planting, digging, pioneering projects). Our partnership with the schools also includes financial and material donations to support their ongoing sustainability.

Project Kenya aims not only to benefit children, schools and communities in Nakuru, but also to deliver priceless personal development & learning opportunities for all participating Somerset Scouts. This experience will challenge us to increase our understanding of the wider world and of the very different issues faced by the communities we will work alongside.
