Hobart Artivism March
Donation protected
Dear friends and supporters
On Thursday 17th October, we finally had a meeting with the authorities of the city of Hobart, where Metro Bus, Tas Police, the Hobart City Council and UTas (which own the wall) met with the delegation of Hobart Artivism March for Climate.
After a fair amount of discussions, they decided to refuse us permission to march through our proposed route, mostly for bureaucratic reasons. We Proposed alternative routes and they were all declined. This is devastating but mostly frustrating as we have asked for a meeting before applying but we have been told to apply first and the paperwork was very time consuming, giving us a very small window of time to be able to make any changes if refused.
The aim of Hobart Artivism March is to disrupt and reclaim the streets for the purpose of calling for immediate climate action through muralism, dance and music. But this is why we have to do it safely and responsibly, for the sake of all the artists who have decided to participate in this Act of Artivism.
This is why our team has decided to postpone the Act until further notice.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but in our view, this is only a stone in the road and that we will overcome this, and soon we will be protesting and celebrating together.
Donations
For those who have already donated, we want to let you know that we are still pursuing the event, and funds have gone to very important documentation that we’ll be using in the future like public liability, police permits etc. However, if you would like to get a refund of the event, you are fully entitled to do so.
We believe that the month of March will be adequate and that our new route will favour the performance of our artists. We have already a couple of site in mind and we are working tirelessly to get the project back on track.
