Hi! My name is Hope Cardona, I’m 23 years old, and I’m a screenwriting student. In February, I was diagnosed with stage 4 hodgkin’s lymphoma after almost 2 years of unexplained symptoms and having had tumors with no symptoms for about 5 years. I was dealing with so many symptoms like nonstop itching which led to scarring, overly dry skin, excessive sweating, over sleeping to a dangerous rate, drastic weight loss, hair loss, little to no appetite, insomnia, nausea, daily fevers, and a heart rate so high, I almost died multiple times from near-heart attacks/cardiac arrest. I thought I was going insane and genuinely didn’tHi! My Name is Hope Cardona and I’m 23 years old. Earlier this year in February, I was diagnosed with malignant Hodgkin’s Lymphoma which is stage 4b lymphatic cancer. My tumors, and symptoms from them, first started appearing around 2017/2018 but they didn’t appear on our radar until late 2021. My symptoms started manifesting in early 2021, which completely derailed my life. I had severe back spasms, a rapidly decreasing appetite to an alarming amount, nonstop itching which led to scarring, overly dry skin, excessive sweating, oversleeping to a dangerous rate, drastic weight loss, hair loss, insomnia, nausea, daily fevers, and a heart rate so high that I almost died multiple times from cardiac arrest or heart attacks. I couldn’t get answers from anyone, was told it was from just anxiety, etc. I thought I was going insane. I didn’t think I could continue living if it was the way I was. Thankfully, I’m much healthier now and am continuing to fight! I went through 4 cycles of ABVD, but that ended up not being the correct treatment for me. I did Escalated EACOPP, and that worked for the most part, but I’m now in the hospital for a stem cell transplant.
