Hold up Norma Sheakley &fam during stroke recovery

In December of 2022, Norma went to the ER via ambulance and was told she had the flu and was sent home. She had symptoms such as half of her body being numb, speech problems and loss of vision in one eye. After speaking to the healthcare providers at the local clinic multiple times she was told she still had the flu and to wait until her regularly scheduled visit which was days away.

It turned out she suffered a stroke and even after being told she would recover in time, she pushed for a second opinion and almost 2 weeks after the suspected date of the stroke she was finally sent to Sitka and received confirmation of a stroke. Everyone knows that this is a very serious diagnosis and even more alarming is that no treatment was given for almost 2 weeks!

We are asking for immediate financial support from the community, as although she has a long road to recovery, daily expenses are piling up and she has 2 teenagers to care for. 

There WILL be follow-up with temporary disability and other sources of funding, but she needs our help NOW. 

PLEASE help Norma as she has tirelessly helped our community, especially our elders and youth! She has provided traditional foods and is a knowledge bearer of traditional food preparation: she needs to recover fully so she can not only provide for her children but to continue to provide for all those who she still wishes to teach! 

We know this is a big ask as we all have bills to pay and families to provide for, but right now the healthcare system failed her and as a result her future is uncertain. 

All I know is that EVERY little bit HELPS! PLEASE take just a moment to give back to Norma Sheakley and her family while they navigate this difficult road ahead.
