My name is Holly Posey, living in Atlanta GA.
On July 1, 2013 I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer (bone & liver) for which there is treatment, but no remission or cure. Beginning in July 2013, I underwent major orthopedic surgery to repair my right femur, which had broken near the hip due to the aggressive spread of the canccer. Twelve days after the surgery, I began 5 months of chemotherapy which consisted of three drugs, one to kill the cancer cells and two more to block the spread of the cancer cells. For the remainder of my life I will have the two chemotherapy drugs infused which helps prevent the spread. I responded well to the chemotherapy and had two years with no spread of the cancer.
In late 2015 I began having pain again in the bone, and visited my orthopedic surgeon who showed me the recent scans and advised aggressive treatment. My Atlanta oncologist prescribed pain medication and stated my scans were clear and the cancer had not returned. I decided to take my care into my own hands. Through research in 2014 I had found a wonderful oncologist in Harrisburg PA, but I was doing well at the time and remained with the oncologist in Atlanta. In December 2015 I visited the Harrisburg oncologist and was accepted as a patient. I began chemotherapy in Harrisburg, PA on December 11, 2015; receiving a new medication which has been approved since my last round of chemo. The treatment is weekly, which keeps the negative side effects in the tolerable range.
The cost of travel to Harrisburg for myself and my companion for my weekly chemotherapy, as well as car, hotel and food, has become insurmountable. With the onset of 'chemo brain' I am unable to travel by myself and will need a companion to travel with me.
The opportunity to be treated by this outstanding physician with the newest treatments available is life-changing for me. Although my type of cancer is incurable with no chance of remission, I am positive that my willingness to undergo this agressive treatment may helps someone in the future.
Your assistance will help me survive in the short term and beat this disease! I am forever grateful for all the assistance I have received and the prayers of you all around the world.
If you are unable to donate financially, there are several other things that you could do for which I would be forever grateful. Among these are 1) a dogsitter for the best old dog in the world, 2) help with errands, 3) help with housecleaning.
I'll keep you posted as my treatment progresses.
Please keep me in your prayers.
God bless you.
