Home care for Marjorie Whylie
Donation protected
My name is Lara Whylie. I have been responsible for the care of my dearest beautiful aunt, Marjorie Whylie since February 2023. I am her only remaining next of kin.
Her health has been in decline due to diabetes, hypertension and early signs of dementia. Nurses and caregivers from THAWS (Therapeutic Health And Wellness Services) have been with her 24-7.
In March 2023, she fell ill and was temporarily hospitalized. As a result, her health challenges progressed.
For several years, her house has not been fully maintained. It is now in severe need of repair. Its roof is leaking and needs to be replaced. This has resulted in gradual deterioration which may soon make the house unsafe to reside in.
Electricity, water, cable, internet and phone services are either cut off, or about to be because payments for them are relying on people's donations. She has absolutely no money left.
Marjorie is known for her brilliance as a pianist, percussionist, and educator. To name only a few of her several achievements, she was the musical director of the National Dance Theatre Company from its near beginning for 45 years, has two published books: "Folk Songs of Jamaica" and "Our Musical Heritage: The Power of the Beat", was the lead of her band "Whylie Wrythm", played the piano for the Louise Bennet Coverly (Miss Lou) show, "Ring Ding", was head of the folk music of the Jamaica School of Music-now the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, head of the music unit at the University of the West Indies, etc, etc etc. She is an icon, a national treasure.
Her fruitful, outstanding personality still exists to this day. She has touched hearts and impressively entertained several for decades. She has contributed her entire being to a degree that goes above and beyond what has been expected of her. Jamaica and music combined have always been her main focus to the degree of overruling her personal needs.
The costs of Marjorie's nurses, caregivers, medical needs, supplies, house maintenance and repair have become extremely high and can no longer be covered. The THAWS nurses and caregivers were generous and kind enough to stay (even while not being paid for months) due to the dangers of leaving her alone. Regretfully and understandably, they could eventually discontinue such service. This would leave Marjorie in absolute danger.
Dr Aggrey Irons and Dr Lorenzo Gordon have diagnosed and tended to Marjorie's critical health challenges. They have also advised that she must remain in her familiar surroundings. So, the maintenance and repair of her home must be tended to and her nurses and caregivers must remain consistent. Donations are needed immediately for such to assure Marjorie's safety and well being.
PLEASE GIVE AS SOON AS YOU CAN.
My deepest gratitude to those who have donated and expressed words of support and recognition. To those who are about to do such, I give my deepest gratitude in advance.
