Home Destroyed by Dam Break in Sanford, Michigan
Donation protected
Jacob is a hard working EMT in Saginaw. 2020 has knocked him down again and again. On March 1 he entered into a land contract to buy his childhood home on Sanford Lake. He moved his family in shortly after. Then he contracted Covid 19 from working with positive patient's on the ambulance. He lost 3 weeks of work while he recovered. He finally got a negative Covid test on the day that the Edenville Dam broke. When the message came through saying that the dam had broken he walked out the door, leaving all his possessions behind and got his family to safety. Within a little more than an hour his house was totally under water. Going back in the next day there was very little that was salvageable. With the help of many wonderful volunteers the house was reduced to foundation, wall studs, and a roof. Home owners insurance does not cover anything so if he is going to rebuild, it will depend on the generosity of others and possibly FEMA.
Immediate Needs: Jake, Ellen, and the kids (Ryan, Amelia, and Issy) will be staying with us for a couple of weeks while they figure things out. After that they will have to have somewhere they can rent short term while the house gets rebuilt. We love and appreciate all the offers of furniture, toys, and household items but right now they have no where to put things. We would love for you to reach out with those offers in a month or so.
