Home Fire Relief Fund for Betsy Speeter

Our friend, Betsy Speeter, lost her entire home and all her belongings in a house fire on December 18. She was not home at the time, so thankfully, Betsy is OK. For now, she is staying with her daughter and family, who live close by. The home was a complete loss, including precious heirlooms, photographs, books, and all the other memorabilia of a beautiful life with her late husband, Greg. We are moved to establish this campaign to help Betsy during this heartbreaking chapter. We are a group of former colleagues and friends who have worked with Betsy and Greg over many years. They have been dedicated public servants, organizers, peacemakers, mentors, and volunteers. Betsy has a heart as big as the world, and even during this devastating time, is thinking of others before herself.

While we do not yet have information on what her insurance company will cover, her immediate needs include clothing, personal items, and medical expenses. Longer-term needs include housing, transportation (car was also melted), and rebuilding expenses that are not covered by insurance.

Betsy has contributed so much to our lives and our community. We share a deep sadness for her losses and hope that our contributions will ease the overwhelming job of rebuilding her home and her life in Hatfield.
