A Home for Ancestral Rich Treasures of Zuni

Keshhi a:hoi, donsh a:wiya!
Hello people, have you arrived!
We are proud Zuni bead workers, carvers, jewelers, metalsmiths, painters, potters, silversmiths, and weavers who work in our home studios. But sadly, we do not have a place to call home to sell our authentic arts. Our beautiful arts are typically created on a workbench in the bedroom, living room, back room, or even outside!
So in February 2019, a group of us artists, who currently exist as the Zuni Pueblo ArtWalk, felt a strong need to have our own building. As Zuni Pueblo ArtWalk artisans, we open our home studios to visitors who want to experience the process of art making from beginning to end. Unfortunately, many artists cannot afford a home studio or even a place to house their arts.
This led us to partner with The Cooperative Catalyst of New Mexico and the A:shiwi College & Career Readiness Center to create a cooperative that would truly be owned by us artists. On April 2019, we signed our Articles of Incorporation to become a true entity!
Now we want a place that we can call our home or hon a:wan k’yakwenne. As the newly formed Ancestral Rich Treasures of Zuni Cooperative (ARTZ), we have identified a building along the main highway within our beautiful pueblo.
At this point, we are ready to move in! However, the impacts on artisans and our local economy have made this difficult. We lack the funding needed to carry us through the rest of the year. So we are kindly asking for your help so that we in turn can help ourselves and our community!
Your donation today will allow us to strength our art community by investing in a home. All funds received will be used for the start-up costs for building usage:
· Business fees, such as filing fees, insurance, taxes, etc.
· Furniture, such as display cases, office equipment, shelves, etc.
· Maintenance, for moving in and maintaining the building
· Rent, for a period of 6 months
· Utilities, including electricity, plumbing, and propane
By giving us a home, the ARTZ co-op and the Zuni Pueblo ArtWalk will have a place not only to house their art, but also a place that can be utilized by community artists. The real benefit you will be giving us is the opportunity to strengthen the Zuni community and empower us to create a truly Zuni artist-owned and operated cooperative. Your donation is giving us the chance to start a business that will eventually be self-sustained and controlled by no one other than the artists!
No donation is too small. We are not only seeking monetary donations, but any donations of goods or services that will allow us to maintain our new home. For those who donate over $100, you will receive a gift from the ArtWalk community upon successful move-in!
Elahkwa! Don yanikchiya:do.
Thank you! May you be blessed.
