Build a home for our mom, Debbie

Thank you to our community for taking a moment to read this. We love and appreciate all of you! I’m sure you understand how difficult it can be to ask for help, and it is with much gratitude that we are asking for your assistance to help.

We need help securing a safe and stable home/future for our mom Debbie Steven along with her 2 companion dogs.

Our mom Debbie is a beautiful soul, mother, grandmother, sister and tireless caregiver. She would never ask for this help or prefer to be addressed as elderly but we are advocating for her & speaking her truth. She was a single mother most of her life and always figured out how to provide for her daughters. Debbie has been a caregiver to the elderly mostly with dementia, and Alzheimer’s for the past 20 years. She has given her all to care for the elderly making sure they live out their last days in the comfort of their own home. Now that she herself is an elderly woman (she would beg to differ) we want to make sure she also can be cared for by loved ones in the comfort of her own home. For the last few weeks our mom has been in the hospital fighting a very serious blood infection. With great relief, she has come through two surgeries to remove staph infection from her spine. We are so relieved she is improving, and are looking at another 3-4 weeks of inpatient therapy, then several more months of recovery at home. Due to the infection around her spinal cord & surgery she will not be able to return to her career as a caregiver or go back to paying for her previous living arrangements. We will be putting her belongings in storage over the next couple weeks then moving her into her new home once it is done.

We know with the community coming together, a lot of hard work & faith this goal is very achievable.

We are raising funds to help her transition from inpatient care, to a tiny home on her daughter Melissa’s property in Tennessee, as well as off-set the costs of her medical copays while we do the big work of navigating Medicare.

We hope to have her new home built in the next 45 days. In the mean time we are working diligently to exhaust all available resources as well. i.e. social security benefits, Medicare etc.

It’s true that housing costs continue to climb, and our elderly population who are on a fixed income are particularly vulnerable. As it stands right now when our mom is released from medical care, she will have no home to call her own. We want to change that. This is a great challenging opportunity that her daughters and loved ones are willing to work hard to make happen. We just need your help to raise the funds to build her a tiny home on Melissa’s land. This will finally give our mom, Debbie a place to call home for the rest of her life home without fear of eviction, and allow her daughter’s to be right next door for daily support.
