Home of Hope - Roof Repairs & Solar Panels

Donation protected
The 2024 Executive MBA cohort at USF recently went overseas to South Africa to take a course on international business. To our surprise, we had the privilege of meeting some amazing children with enough happiness and joy to fill any room. Although all of these children suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder, they are still strong-spirited and have such a positive outlook on life. In short, this disorder creates various physical disabilities and problems with behavioral and learning capabilities due to the brain damage sustained before birth.

Studies show that the life expectancy at birth of individuals with this disorder is about 34 years, but we witnessed the Home of Hope crew providing them with a life filled with normalcy, love, and ultimately hope for a better future. While this fundraiser isn't affiliated with the university, our group felt compelled to contribute to enhancing their quality of life and allow these 19 children a chance to outpace this life expectancy.

Upon our visit, we realized that the home was struggling with many issues that have been impossible for them to afford. The two things that we want to raise funds for are as listed:

1. Roof Repairs:
  • Ongoing issues with leakage and hazardous conditions continue to worsen with the severe weather South Africa has been experiencing this winter. The roof has been an issue for the past four years incurring many costs and creating dangerous living conditions for the children.

2. Solar Power:
  • With the ever-increasing power failure due to South Africa's electric load-shedding and blackouts, there is a pressing need for solar power. This is a great reliable, cost-effective investment for the future as there is no true end in sight for load-shedding and no potential solution in sight from the government. It will also bring down their running costs with regard to electricity.

We believe that our contribution and all the support we can get from our friends and families will help us achieve our goal of not only raising the funds for these two priorities, but will also impact the lives of these beautiful children, with the hope of providing a better tomorrow. A small contribution may have more of a lasting impression than you may realize. We appreciate everyone in advance!
