I am Bayo Omisore.
I am a writer, a creative entrepreneur and a storyteller.
I consider myself an immigrant having spent all of my adult life in Lagos, Nigeria despite being a British passport holder for almost half my life.
I moved to the UK permanently almost seven years ago to give my children better life options. Back in Nigeria, I worked actively in the music industry for over two decades building the brand that has become known worldwide as Afrobeats. My work as an activist also put me in the position to campaign for the last President of Nigeria, General Buhari, via the man that would become his vice, Professor Osinbajo. Some policies by that same government left me bankrupt and I had to bite the bullet and make the move to London in 2017.
I left everything I know and love to move to a ‘foreign land’ where I did not feel quite welcome. Many Nigerians have had to make that same journey in the past few years. This story questions the idea of home; especially on the backdrop of nationalists who want to keep ‘strangers’ out. This is a first look at immigration through the lenses of the immigrant himself.
The funds raised will be used to shoot a short film named Home. We will also look to speak with people from all corners of the world who have left their home countries in search for a better life. Those conversations will produce a documentary ancillary to the film. The funds will be used to hire equipment, cast and crew, on the one hand, and to pay for permits, on the other. We will also expend some of the resources on marketing and distributing the film.
