Homecoming Fund for Mr. Quinones

Donation protected
Mr. Quinones is a 59-year-old beloved father and long-time Brooklynite who is coming home in April after 18 years of incarceration in New York state prisons. As part of EPIC’s Parole Advocacy Project at NYU Law , we (Becca & Sarah) have been working with Mr. Quinones over the past six months to prepare for his parole board interview and now, his return home.

In the words of Mr. Quinones, “I want to enjoy every bit of life that I have left, [even though I] have to start all over again from scratch. I don’t like to ask for help too much, I’m an independent person. But sometimes, you need to.” All funds will directly support Mr. Quinones with his immediate needs upon his return home in April, including transportation, housing, clothing, and medical expenses. Mr. Quinones has struggled with untreated back and leg pain which impair his ability to walk and has not received adequate healthcare while in prison. Because of Mr. Quinones’ chronic pain, it is critical that he get a car upon his release so that he may seek employment and consistent medical care.

Mr. Quinones is an incredibly generous and reflective person who is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his life. He looks forward to reuniting with his family, including his daughter and sister, who are eagerly waiting to welcome him home. Reflecting on his time in prison, Mr. Quinones comments on the difficulty of returning to the community after years in the system. “It’s a shame, losing all these years of your life in the system for minor things…” Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about the future and hopes to mentor youth in his community to serve as the big brother he never had. A skilled tradesman, Mr. Quinones also aspires to start his own floor buffing company in Brooklyn. “It takes time, but I’m gonna get it. I want to leave something behind for my kids. I’m trying to follow my dreams.”

Any and all support is greatly appreciated and will go directly to Mr. Quinones. Please share widely and feel free to contact us with any questions.
