Homeless for the holidays: single mom of 3
Donation protected
My name is Heather and I'm a single mom in the Bay Area. I have 3 kids ages 18, 14, and 10. Their father is nowhere to be found. We've been without a home since August 2022. I had gotten behind on rent during COVID because I was laid off, so when the property manager started the eviction process by serving me a 3-Day Pay or Quit Notice, he refused to take the past due payment and continued with the eviction process. I won't bore you with all the craziness that took place during the court experience, but the result was an eviction with 3 children and nowhere to go. I don't have family and because of the abusive nature of my previous relationship with my children's father, I no longer have a friend group either. I've worked as a bookkeeper, a legal assistant at a number of law firms and a licensed Optician. I do have a college degree. I've never been homeless in my life. I've applied for every non profit program and any government assistance programs as well. I don't drink or take drugs. Not that there's anything wrong with others who do as a coping mechanism. I just want to share that I absolutely love my children and all I want for them is to be safe, warm and secure. I've been panhandling to pay for a motel night to night. I really hate asking but we're living hour to hour and if we could just get some breathing room to buy us a few weeks secured in the motel so I can focus on applying for jobs and getting back on my feet.
Thank you for anything you can do to help us.
