Homeless Transgender Couple Fleeing Missouri
Donation protected
Hi all, our names are Lillian and Lilith, or Lilly and Lily for short. Both of our families have finally ousted us for our relationship and for being transgender. Our stories were almost identical, and we found each other to help each other.
We're asking for whatever you can give to help get us into a permanent living situation, preferably outside of Missouri. We’ll use donations for two purposes. Firstly, to get out of Missouri where persecution for being transgender is at an all-time high. Secondly, to get a more permanent residence–Either an apartment in another state, or a camper we can use in the move.
Lilith had made it out of the worst of her situation, living in an apartment with her sister. It was hard to make ends meet, but they managed for a time. Eventually, though, her sister stopped upholding her end of the lease. I met Lilith online around the time when she was working at Amazon to try to make ends meet despite her sister. She couldn't move out yet, the lease wasn't over, but I watched her work as hard as she could to try to pull the weight of both of them. Eventually, it overwhelmed her, and she was evicted. Almost all the apartments in and surrounding Kansas City have a strict no-evictions policy, and she's been in and out of her car, briefly staying with reluctant and abusive family members who only tried to use the opportunity to bend her to their beliefs while trying to search for any option.
I 'moved in' with Lilith a couple months after she was evicted. My family is a similar case, my mother is a strict traditionalist who withheld both a fund my family was saving for when I moved out and a spare vehicle they promised to give me because I left to be with Lilith; citing that she would feel "complicit" in our sin. I moved with the intent of helping her, but I haven't been able to help as much as I was hoping.
Right now, we're living out of her car, a barely running junker with a dying transmission and a million other issues. While the car isn't so bad in concept, there's a lot that's preventing us from making it work: Having to always eat out, even cheap food, takes its toll monetarily and keeps us from saving up much of any money. Our current jobs don't pay well, but we can't afford the stress of changing jobs with the sleep troubles of the car's improvised bed. Most importantly, nowhere feels safe. Even our best option, a spot behind our work that we have permission to stay at, is still occasionally met with people snooping. Just recently, we were scared into a hotel we really couldn't afford after someone started peeking under our window covers and tried to pull open our door (Thankfully, it was locked).
To top it all off, Missouri Attorney General, Andrew Bailey, issued a de-facto ban on trans healthcare, pushing us one step closer to being out of sight and out of mind of Missouri—Or worse. We can't afford to be here, but moving states is a massive cost of time, money, and coordination we can't do alone right now.
Even being able to afford food consistently is a big step in being able to keep going in times like this. We'll appreciate anything at all you can give.
