Homeless Veterans Retreat Centre

Hi, my name is Lee, and I am fundraising on behalf of the Veterans Society Support Group based in Lowestoft, Suffolk. The VSSG are raising funds to help turn the old nurse's block at the old Lowestoft Hospital into a Veterans Retreat for homeless veterans. The planned layout will have 30 rooms for veterans who need secure and safe accommodation, plus other scheduled services such as rehabilitation, referrals and other support services that will help them back into the community. The centre will be short-term, but the support will be long-term once integrated into society.

This project is important to me because there is a lack of housing support for veterans and their famillies, which I struggled with when leaving the armed forces back in 1988. Like myself, I suffered from PTSD and spent many months homeless, on the streets with no support and no one to turn to or speak to. Through personal experience and hardship, I understand the need for a project such as this that will give our brave men and woman the means to receive vital help and support.

The funds raised will help the VSSG get their charitable status, help pay for other fundraising campaigns, and, most of all, help spread awareness to other veteran support organisations in England and Wales. Funds will also be used to set up a permanent office within Lowestoft to continue their campaign.
