We missed my sister who was separated from our small family for 10 years. My dad hoped our little family could all have the chance to be with each other. Unfortunately he passed away and never got to see my sister step foot on American soil. That was one of his unfinished wishes. Finally after waiting all these years she was able to move to the US and reunite with her family once again. Unfortunately, she did not feel well when she moved here. The first two weeks when she moved to the States, she spent most of her time in bed. We didn’t know whether she was just tired or needed to adjust the jet lag. Days went by and she still didn’t feel better, in fact her health went downhill dramatically.

My sister has always been in very good shape, she’s only been in the hospital a couple of times in her whole life. She resisted going to the hospital for a check up. One morning at 4am, my mother had woke me up and asked me to  help and get her to the hospital. She lost her breath for a couple of second. Luckily we made it to the hospital. After a few lab tests, Mercy hospital diagnosed her with Leukemia and transferred her to OHSU in Portland, they were able to get her there in an ambulance within a few hours.

When I found out she has AML (the type of leukemia), I broke down. My sister doesn’t speak any English, and it was my responsibility to tell her she had blood cancer. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do. She had a hard time to accept that is what she had. And she refused to do Chemotherapy or a bone marrow transplant. After she was stabilized, she decided to go home and seek for eastern medicine for her Leukemia.

After three weeks of Eastern medicine treatment, her blood results came back and she had improved a lot. However, that didn’t last very long. Since she had low platelets her blood wouldn’t clot on its own so when she got her period it never stopped. Since her red cell count was already extremely low, losing lots blood caused her body dysfunctional.

She got sent in an ambulance to Mercy Hospital. The hospital ran out of platelets and couldn’t stabilize her. So they had to transfer her to Sacred Heart at Riverbend Hospital. The same night she got transferred to Riverbend, they flew her to OHSU with a helicopter to start treatment. She didn’t have a choice this time, because they told her she was going to DIE within a week without treatment. They told her they were unable to give her any more blood or platelets to keep her alive if she didn’t accept the treatment. Our family was so heart broken and trying to be strong for her.

Once she accepted the treatment, we had her back 100%. We don’t know what is going to happen, but we are not giving up hope. So here I am, asking for your support and help. Please help my sister and wish her a speedy recovery. She is so young and has her whole life ahead of her still. We hope to get enough funding to get her through this, so she can have a fresh start in America. I wouldn’t be writing this if we weren’t in a desperate situation. Anything will help, even something as little as a positive thought. Bless you and your loved ones.
